Recovering papers and encouraging recycling are crucial to reducing our environmental footprint.

Glatfelter is proud of the paper industry’s recovery improvements. Through collaboration with various organizations and adherence to our environmental policies, we are confident not just in our ability to progress, but in the continued advancement of all papermaking companies. Reducing our environmental impact throughout the papermaking process is an ongoing endeavor that Glatfelter will continue to improve upon.



56% (54,000 tons) of fiber used to make paper & board in the U.S. in 2007 came from recovered papers—an all-time high. The balance came from virgin fiber.

60% of all recovered paper is consumed by domestic paper and board mills for use in recycled paper and board products. The balance is exported to other countries.

2012 is the goal year the American Forest & Paper Association hopes to reach a 60% recovery rate. Recovery rates have consistently improved year after year, reaching an all time high in 2007.
