General Mill Manager

Located in Fort Smith, AR the General Mill Manager leads and is accountable for all operations-related processes in the plant.  The incumbent will have full responsibility for Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Costs (SQDC) performance of site against budgets/forecast, production plan, and targets.  The General Mill Manager will lead, motivate, and direct the operations leadership team for the site and closely cooperate with Functional Leaders on site and company wide as an integral part of the company’s matrix structure.  The successful candidate will act as a role model and champion GLT values, compliance, safety, and quality within the site.

Duties & Responsibilities


  • Overall responsible for managing site safety, productivity, environment, quality, and cost (produce to plan, to spec and to budget)
  • Responsible for plant Business plan and budget (SQDC, maintenance, Capex, production relevant key performance indicators)
  • Responsible for adhering to Airlaid Material’s quality standards
  • Secure continued operations by having needed resources on site in collaboration with local Human Resources
  • Lead the management of the financial balance sheet, profit for the site
  • Conduct regular follow up to on site to meet or exceed annual budget targets and financial as well as non-financial KPIs (e.g. production targets, product quality incl. corrective and preventive actions if necessary)
  • Enable and foster continuous process optimization, productivity improvement and best practice implementation

Environment, Health & Safety

  • Responsible for safety and health of all employees, visitors & contractors on the site in the achievement of Glatfelter’s Safety Mission: “Injury Free Every Day!”
  • Accountability for meeting all local statutory, safety, environmental and corporate compliance requirements
  • Ensures all controls, permits, documents and systems are maintained & current
  • To be a role model in complying with the safety regulations & to require similar standards of the Leadership team and workforce

Management & Leadership

  • Responsible leader for a cross functional team of direct reports as part of the Mill’s operations processes; direct reports include Department Leaders of Safety, Production, Maintenance, Engineering, Quality, and Matierals & Logistics
  • Close collaboration and partnership with peers and leaders within Glatfelter’s Functional Model structure, such as Commercial & Innovation, HR, Finance & Controlling, IT

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree required (technical/engineering preferred), along with 8 or more years of related experience, at least 5 of which must be in a production or technical environment, ideally in nonwoven, paper-, paper converting- or other process industry
  • Prior experience in a matrix organization is required, including but not limited to budget processing, reporting and communications
  • Experienced in leadership/influential leadership, strong focus on mentoring, coaching, ability to challenge the status quo and strive for results
  • Proven track record in project management combined with strong continuous improvement capabilities


  • Ability to effectively prioritizes for optimum results, builds performance culture regarding SQDC
  • Financial/commercial acumen, budgeting and cost controlling skills
  • Demonstrated ability to form productive working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders internal and external
