International Tax Manager

Glatfelter is seeking an International Tax Manager at our Corporate Office. This role reports directly to our Tax Director. The incumbent will be responsible for managing the taxation matters of the Company’s non-US operations. This individual will assist with the development and implementation of the Company’s global tax strategy, as the Company follows its growth strategy.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Manage and review US compliance and tax planning issues in connection with international activities, including:
    • Review of international tax forms (Forms 5471, 8858, 1118, CbC, etc.)
    • GILTI and Subpart F computations, BEAT and FDII
    • CbC reporting
  • Assist with monthly and quarterly ASC 740 reporting for non-US operations, including FIN 48 and review of local country tax provisions.
  • Manage the progress of income tax audits: US IRS exams of international areas, and local country tax audits.
  • Coordinate and review transfer pricing planning and documentation preparation.
  • Track and follow developments in international taxation, and communicate key developments as appropriate.
  • Research international tax issues as needed, and communicate findings and recommendations to management.
  • Assist with modeling of various tax scenarios for planning purposes.
  • Participate and assist with business development and M&A activities, including due diligence, integration, and purchase accounting issues.
  • Assist with international tax planning projects, and the eventual implementation and monitoring of those projects.
  • Partner with Glatfelter colleagues in finance, legal, and operations on tax aspects of common issues/projects.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with our external partners.
  • Liaise with treasury personnel on common tax / treasury issues.
  • Contribute to the maintenance and improvement of effective SOX 404 controls over all tax processes.
  • Assist on commodity tax issues (VAT, GST, PST), and other indirect tax issues (RETT).
  • Document tax positions in technical memoranda.
  • Identify opportunities and help implement automation efficiencies.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop tax staff, promoting their technical skill and development.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
  • CPA license and/or Masters in Taxation preferred but not required
  • 5-10 years’ experience in a large US-based multinational corporation with a significant non-US operating footprint
  • Additionally, some public accounting experience strongly preferred, but not required
  • Strong experience in ASC 740, FIN 48 and familiarity with US GAAP
  • Strong experience in US Federal corporate income tax
  • Experience and familiarity in working with international components of US corporate income tax compliance (Forms 5471, GILTI, FTC, CbC)
  • Experience with non-US taxation helpful, but not required
  • Experience with VAT helpful, but not required
  • Strong oral and written communication skills essential; ability to communicate at many levels within the organization
  • Self-starter with demonstrative initiative, attention to detail, and a critical, problem-solving mindset
  • Ability to work in a fast paced and demanding environment
  • Proficient in MS office; advanced Excel with ability to manipulate data; strong experience with tax provision and corporate tax preparation software.
