Material Handler

Located in Fort Smith, AR the Material Team Assistant organizes and coordinates daily operations and material flows in the Fort Smith facility. Responsible for tracking and recording material storage and inventories, including consumable materials and is the main point of contact for the customer and the customer service representative in all transport coordination and in dealings with transport companies.

Duties & Responsibilites:

  • Maintains receiving, warehousing, and distribution operations by initiating, coordinating, and enforcing program, operational, and personnel policies and procedures.
  • Utilizes warehouse management systems SAP S4 HANNA to receive, bin locate, store, and process customer shipments in support of OTIF/FIFO policies.
  • Safeguards warehouse operations and contents by establishing and monitoring security procedures and protocols.
  • Controls inventory levels by conducting physical counts; reconciling with data storage system.
  • Supports inventory forecasting through MRP process for raw materials and consumables.
  • Forecasts transportation for recyclables to maintain safe storage levels in waste locations.
  • Conducts reorder, route, and safety stock audits to reflect changes in customer demands.
  • Maintains physical condition of warehouse by planning and implementing new design layouts; inspecting equipment; issuing work orders for repair and requisitions for replacement.
  • Assists Logistics and Materials Leader in achieving warehouse financial objectives by assisting in the preparation of the annual budget; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions.
  • Completes warehouse operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees; following up on work results.
  • Assists in maintaining warehouse staff by recruiting, interviewing, orienting, and training employees.
  • Maintains warehouse staff job results by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.
  • Maintains positive material tracking while in transit and communicates with customers, suppliers and logistics until product is received.
  • Conducts/updates quarterly storage location and capacity audits to reflect actual usage to maximize warehouse layout proficiency.
  • Participates in special projects and handles all other assigned duties as required.
  • Supports / covers for the Logistics and Material Leader.
  • Assists to regular team safety meetings and keeps informed of potential risks in her/his work area.
  • Maintains safe working practices at all times.
  • Helps maintain housekeeping in all warehouse areas to hygienic facility standards, fills in all appropriate documentation.
  • Promotes and supports Glatfelter’s Environmental and Health and Safety Policies. Ensures that he/her understands and follows these policies.
  • Understands and follows the Glatfelter – Fort Smith Safety Rules and Regulations.

Education/Experience:

  • Technical certificate or equivalent from a two year college or technical school;
  • Or 3-5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Associate’s degree in a related field preferred.
  • SAP experience preferred
  • Computer literacy required
