Process Engineering/ CI Manager

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Provide expectations, development, feedback, and direction to Process Engineering Team.
  • Be a lead safety advocate, aligning practices with policies to reduce risks and potential for injuries and events.
  • Seek to protect all employees from safety, environmental and health risks by being engaged and accessible.
  • Ensure that all employees are treated with respect, fairness, and consistency. Balance accountability with recognition/reward.
  • Optimize work flows and OEE between the Sontara and TWIG operations, driving improvements in process control and OEE.
  • Investigate and evaluate routine and special cause processing problems, finding root causes and developing corrective actions.
  • Engage with Develop and drive training for production department employees to progress in pay for skill program and meet business needs.
  • Evaluate and audit SOPs and SOCs for accuracy and currency to actual.
  • Monitor, measure and complete weekly, monthly, and period metrics updates and reporting.
  • Partners with Quality, Engineering and Maintenance to develop a cost-effective and working production process.
  • Create a sense of urgency and set priorities for daily, weekly, and monthly goals and accomplishments.
  • Proactively communicate with employees in both formal and informal means to clarify expectations, changes, challenges and goals.
  • Become a funnel for suggestions, ideas, concerns, opportunities, and issues that need support and investigation.
  • Drives a continuous improvement mentality and approach through example, leading kaizen events, gemba walks and 5-S events.
  • Coordinate with supply chain on detailed schedules, planning optimization, production standards and flexibility improvements.
  • Supports R&D and process trials as it relates to defining, measuring, and quantifying production capabilities.
  • Understand and comply with ISO 9001 and other regulatory policies and procedures in the performance and responsibilities.
  • Follow all company environmental, health and safety programs, policies, regulations, and requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • REQUIRED:
    • Experience in process engineering and improvement project management.
    • Experience with continuous manufacturing operations.
    • Experience in working in teams environment with multiple goals and projects
  • DESIRED / PREFERRED:
    • Experience managing a 24/7 manufacturing operation.
    • Experience in nonwovens, films, paper or roll goods manufacturing.
    • Experience in management situations, including leading professionals..

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Chemical, Mechanical, or Textile Engineering or technology from four-year college or university
  • 5+ years in industrial manufacturing operations in levels of progressing responsibility.
  • Training in DMAIC, six sigma, SPC, Deming, TPS, Designed Experiments and/or other formal improvement methodologies..

LANGUAGE /COMMUNICATION SKILLS

  • Ability to listen, ask open-ended questions, understand concepts, ideas and concerns and turn into tangible concepts and themes.
  • Ability to write emails, reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and customers.
  • Ability to define and communicate expectations, goals, milestones and priority setting with and for the team.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

  • Ability to understand mechanical, chemical and mathematical concepts relating to manufacturing processes with the goal of understanding the complexity, potential problems and solutions for operational issues.
  • Able to set expectations, delegate and gather milestones and periodic updates to gauge progress toward goals.
  • Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distributions, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
  • Ability to evaluate processing issues and problems to lead investigations, root cause analysis, corrective actions as well as the consideration for contingency planning and prioritizing multiple concurrent issues.

COMPUTER SKILLS

  • Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, as well as various business systems and ERP software.

REASONING:

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity and complexity.
  • Strong self-starting mind-set and team worker.

MISCELLANEOUS CRITERIA:

  • This position is a full time position.
  • Core work schedule is Monday through Friday, but could be required to work with a 12-hour shift, weekends or overtime as job duties demand.
  • Position requires local, domestic and international travel (5% – 15%).
