Senior Product Engineer

Located at the Lydney Mill, Glatfelter is seeking a Senior Product Engineer. Reporting to the Global Innovation Food & Beverage Manager, this role will provide leadership to two Product Engineers who are based in the UK, and will be the main technical interface for innovation at the UK facility.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Lead, run and supervise development projects following the Glatfelter Innovation Process (resource plan, regular reporting on results, etc.).
  • Understand customer/market needs and develop strong technical customer relationships.
  • Support customers in providing new products and product features that create a sustainable brand differentiation.
  • Provide technical support to customers worldwide.
  • Identify new product opportunities or modify existing products: from basic hand sheet development trials to product completion and hand over to facility manufacturing.
  • Prepare trials for new products, support facility trials (there may be a need to support out of normal hours), follow scale-up process, run converting trials at customers, provide product guidance.
  • Ensure product compliance with food legislation.
  • Support the facility for troubleshooting, customer complaint analysis where necessary and root cause analysis.
  • Market, product, technology watch: stay informed on developments in assigned area including competitive products / technologies, and initiate product portfolio changes if required.
  • Networking with raw material suppliers and universities/institutes.
  • Work with Sales, Marketing and Finance to ensure we maintain optimum product portfolio on all machines to maximize profit.

Competencies & Experience:

  • Degree in Material Science, Chemistry or Paper Making
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a product design or product engineering role, in either a packaging or food science environment
  • Must have a good understanding of materials and technologies with proven experience in project management and six sigma analysis
  • Must be fluent in English, with preferably a basic knowledge of German and French
  • Ability to travel (up to 30%), with the requirement to travel on short notice.
