Staff Accountant

Located in Asheville, NC, this position will be responsible for assisting the Finance team with timely and accurate data processing and period closings. This position is expected to be able to take the initiative to identify issues of concern and devise solutions under general supervision. The person selected will be expected to be able to take on increasing responsibility as the Finance department and the company’s needs grow. This position will work with several group entities, thus needing good communication and organizational skills.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Prepare month end financial statements and internal reporting packages.
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts and resolve issues as needed.
  • Review documents, prepare journal entries and other postings into SAP. Enter and post entries in SAP.
  • Prepare intercompany entries, post entries and reconcile balances with other entities regularly.
  • Perform bank statement reconciliations and maintain cash accounts, including posting monthly activity for cash.
  • Preparation of weekly cash flow statements and forecasts.
  • Supports the department in the preparation of information requested by the external auditors when requested.
  • Preparation of monthly sales tax returns and payments.
  • Responds timely to ad-hoc requests from US Governmental agencies, banks and tax authorities.
  • Provides general support to the business with decision support and analysis.
  • Collaborates with other departments (Payroll, Procurement, HR, IT) to improve and standardize processes.
  • Research complex accounting topics for appropriate GAAP, IFRS, or IRS tax treatments.
  • Identifies areas for process improvement, develops potential solutions, and implements improvements independently, or seeks appropriate approvals to do so when necessary
  • Provide assistance to other accountants in areas such as Fixed Assets, Payroll, Accounts Receivable, Cost Accounting, etc. as needed.
    • Backup role to Payroll.   Full functionality from new hire enrollment, payroll processing, journal entries and reconciliation.
    • Backup role to Accounts Receivable.  Collection calls, cash posting, AR reporting and meetings.
    • Backup role to Fixed Assets.   Reconciliations of additions, disposals and assets under construction.
    • Backup role to Cost Accounting and Material Management.  Margin Analysis, BOM creation and standard costing.
    • Prepares, examines, and analyzes accounting records, financial statements, or other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to reporting and procedural standards
    • Other duties as assigned

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelors Degree (BA) in Accounting or Finance granted from an accredited program.
  • At least three years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing facility;
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of journal entries, financial statements, t-accounts, accruals and deferrals, and amortization;
  • Basic understanding of Fixed Asset and Intercompany accounting.
  • Ability to multitask with minimal supervision.
  • Strong organization and attention to detail skills;
  • Strong analytical skills and good business acumen;
  • Strong experience in Microsoft Excel required (competency and comfort analyzing data sets with pivot tables, advanced formulas).
