Sustainability

Glatfelter is committed to operating responsibly and addressing the concerns and needs of our stakeholders. Our commitment to sustainability and acting as a responsible corporate citizen is rooted in our heritage and based on our Core Values of Integrity, Financial Discipline, Mutual Respect, Customer Focus, Environmental Responsibility, and Social Responsibility. We operate our business in line with these values, and we contribute to the health and well-being of millions of people by using plant-based fibers to create engineered materials that impact and enhance everyday lives. Environmental

Our concern for the environment guides everything we do. We;

  • Empower employees to take personal responsibility for awareness and control of environmental issues on the job
  • Comply with environmental laws and regulations and voluntary principles to which we subscribe
  • Prevent pollution by using natural resources efficiently, reducing waste, encouraging recycling and reuse, and reducing adverse environmental impacts that may be caused by its operations
  • Maintain and continually improve an environmental management system with the goal of improving environmental performance
  • Purchase wood and natural fibers from sustainably managed sources

Health and Safety

Health and Safety are embedded in our core values of integrity, respect for co-workers and social responsibility. We fulfill our commitment by;

  • Providing a workplace committed to the prevention of injury and ill health for all people at all facilities
  • Involving all employees at every level of our organization in all aspects of our safety and health programs
  • Ensuring that people at all levels of the organization are aware, and recognize the value of their personal responsibilities for health and safety compliance and performance
  • Ensuring safety and health programs meet applicable laws, regulations and other requirements at all locations
  • Developing and implementing a health and safety management system rooted in the principle of continuous improvement of safety performance

Quality, Hygiene and Product Safety

Our quality, hygiene and product safety management systems not only regulate and monitor the conformity of our products, but also ensure that controls are correctly defined and maintained. We maintain good manufacturing practices in order to meet all customer and legal requirements. Our prevention programs are integrated to make sure we exercise all due diligence so that our products meet the required standards.

Certifications

Individual Glatfelter manufacturing facilities have received third-party certification for various environmental, health and safety, forestry and product hygiene standards. Upon request, confirmation of halal and kosher production in accordance with applicable standards can be provided for Food & Beverage products. ISO 9001

Requirements for a quality management system for an organization to consistently provide products that meet customer and statutory and regulatory requirements. Aims to enhance customer satisfaction through the effective application of the system.

ISO 14001

Requirements for an environmental management system for an organization to develop and implement a policy and objectives which take into account legal and other requirements, and information about significant environmental aspects.

ISO 22000

Helps organizations identify and control food safety hazards. Applicable to all types of producer, ISO 22000 provides a layer of reassurance within the global food supply chain.

ISO 45001

Builds on the success of earlier international standards in this area, such as OHSAS 18001. Provides a framework of requirements for organizations to develop and implement a policy and objectives for improving employee safety, reducing workplace risks and creating better, safer working conditions.

ISO 50001

Provides a framework of requirements for organizations to develop and implement a policy and objectives surrounding energy management.

OHSAS 18001

Compatible with the ISO 9001 (Quality) and ISO 14001 (Environmental) management systems standards, OHSAS enables an organization to control its occupational health and safety (OHS) risks and improve its performance. Also see ISO 45001.

BRCGS

Brand Reputation through Compliance Global Standard for Packaging and Packaging Materials ensures food safety and quality requirements for packaging manufacturers are met.

EN 15593

EN 15593 is an internationally recognized standard for hygiene management in the food packaging industry. It specifies requirements for manufacturers and suppliers of food packaging, including storage and transportation.

HACCP

The Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point is a system employed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to ensure the safety of food procedures and products.

FSC®

The Forest Stewardship Council® promotes responsible management of the world’s forests.

SFI®

The Sustainable Forestry Inititative® ensures wood and natural fiber-based products come from well-managed forests.

PEFC

The Program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification provides assurance that wood and natural fibers come from ecologically, socially and economically sustainable forests.

Rainforest Alliance Certified

Rainforest Alliance certification indicates that a farm, forest, or enterprise has been audited to meet standards that require environmental, social, and economic sustainability.
